Director
Ian has extensive experience covering a number of different industry sectors, primarily infrastructure development. Throughout his entrepreneurial career, Ian has operated globally, with business activities in countries all over the World. In 2000 Ian founded what became the largest UK railway training provider with multiple training centres throughout the UK. In 2019 this was acquired by City and Guilds, of whom Princess Anne is the Institute’s President. Ian is an Honorary Member of the City & Guilds of London Institute, conferred in recognition of his service to education and the railway industry. As Director and major shareholder in Black Diamond Group, Ian oversees all group company operations, offering guidance and knowledge acquired through his 40+ years in business and helping ensuring continuing growth in size and reputation of the Group.

Martin Hawley
Director
Martin holds a Bsc Hons in Mechanical Engineering and a Business Studies Degree from Sheffield University and is a member of the Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Since 1995 Martin has held the position of Managing Director in a number of large European Engineering Groups with Asian and US Subsidiaries. From September 2012 Martin has held the position of Managing Director of SPL Powerlines UK Ltd, a leading provider of electrical solutions for rail infrastructure, operating throughout the UK and generating a turnover of c.£160 million in the transport sector. As Co-Founder, Director and major shareholder in Black Diamond Group, Martin is involved with all group company operations and with his wealth of knowledge and experience provides incredible business acumen and direction to the Group and its continuing expansion.

Rachel Evans
Director
An experienced Finance Manager with a strong track record of successfully managing finance teams which ensures profitability and growth. Having the ability to communicate financial information effectively at various levels of an organisation. Along with this a proficiency to utilise multiple tools to streamline the financial process.
Responsible for operating all finance functions within the Group including preparation of financial reports to shareholders, board members, and executives. Highly proficient in the use of Sage, Xero, and Quickbooks, with a MAAT membership held. Produces and implements standardised financial processes, and workflow systems to ensure consistency and efficiency across the business and conductsfinancial audits and establish KPI’s to measure the effectiveness of any financial system.

Jason Butterworth
Non-Executive Director
Jason is a recognised figure in the building construction, energy, and transport industry, and is known for his strategic vision, leadership prowess, and extensive experience in various board director roles. Jason has worked with renowned companies including Balfour Beatty, WSP, NG Bailey & Story Contracting, serving as CEO of the latter for an impressive seven year. After his successful stint as CEO Jason has transitioned into non-executive roles, utilising his wealth of experience and expertise to provide strategic guidance to organisations. Currently, he serves as a Non-executive Director for Story Contracting, Enable Infrastructure, and Black Diamond Group, where he continues to make valuable contributions to their strategic direction and growth.

Sir David Richards

Sir David was Managing Director and then Chairman of a large, privately owned, engineering group involved in general manufacturing and water and waste treatment. Sir David has held many positions through the years including that of Chairman of Emap (Radio broadcasting), Director of Sheffield University Sport Medical Centre, and Director of the World Professional Snooker Association. His love of sport gave rise to his appointment as Chairman of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club from 1989 to 2000 and was one of the Founder Members of the Premier League with who he served as Chairman for over 15 years until his retirement from the role in 2013. In 2006 Sir David was Knighted for services to sport and was instrumental in the successful bid for the 2012 London Olympics working across the Globe and Government level. Further appointments include that of President of the European Professional Football Leagues, Chairman of the Football Foundation, Main Board Director of the Football Association, UEFA, and also the Vice Chairman of the NSPCC National Appeal Board. Sir David Chairs the Black Diamond Group board bringing a proven track record and history in business growth and diversification.
